Richard’s Background At Richard’s first office visit, he made it clear that his wife had strongly encouraged him to make the appointment. A 62-year-old, middle-aged man, Richard had a good marriage and enjoyed a successful career in sales, traveling frequently throughout the U.S. and occasionally overseas.
Problem The constant travel and client entertaining was wearing Richard down. He was accustomed to taking clients out for drinks and meals and noticed the drinking was spilling over into his home life. He had accumulated a “spare tire” around his stomach, wasn’t sleeping well and made frequent trips to the bathroom at night. Besides an occasional golf game, exercise wasn't even in his vocabulary. He took a daily statin to control cholesterol and was being treated for elevated blood pressure and acid reflux. Sex was OK, but if he wasn’t well rested it was sometimes difficult to achieve or maintain an erection.
Treatment Plan Georgia Hormones conducted a full evaluation of Richard’s male and female hormones, along with thyroid, adrenal glands, vitamins and sugar metabolism. Thyroid levels came back as average, but his adrenal glands were fatigued. Levels for DHEA-S and Pregnenolone were low, but estrogen numbers were high. When Richard left his initial visit, we gave him informative reading guides: Healthy Eating, Healthy Exercise, Holistic Health for Men,Why Men Should Take HRTand Restoring Digestive Health. After reading the materials, he resolved to work on becoming healthier.
We began Richard on a compounded testosterone gel and additional DHEA and Pregnenolone to help boost the adrenals. Taking acid reflux medication for long periods can disturb the intestinal bacteria, promoting Vitamin 12 and magnesium deficiencies. We began Richard on vitamins with extra B12 and D, added Coenzyme Q10 for muscle health (since statins can contribute to muscle fatigue) and gradually weaned him off the antacid Nexium. Richard also intended to reduce his alcohol and caffeine consumption.
Results After three months, Richard was sleeping well, and sex was better. He had even lost some weight and had more energy at the office. Richard’s digestion had greatly improved, and he intended to ask his internist to reduce dosage amounts for Lipitor and blood pressure medication. When entertaining clients, Richard would nurse a single drink the entire evening. He felt like a younger and happier man.
